Diverse Characters and A World Filled With Life
From the beginning, Genshin Impact starts building a world with deep lore. All of these adventures take place in the world of Teyvat. The game slowly introduces supporting characters that play key roles moving forward. In fact, characters from the opening hours of the game show up regularly dozens of hours later. MiHoYo fleshed out the world of Teyvat with backstories, hidden lore, and an expansive history of events.
Fast-Paced Combat, RPG Elements, and An Open World
Players achieve most of their objectives through combat in the game. Genshin Impact features excellent hack and slash combat with magical elements. In combat, it's possible to combine these elements to create elemental attacks for massive damage. MiHoYo tosses RPG elements into the game with character leveling and weapon ascension. Individual players spend time battling enemies, collecting resources, and saving Teyvat.
Gacha Elements Limit The Game In Certain Ways
Genshin Impact features a diverse roster of characters found within the game's story. A handful of characters can be unlocked through regular gameplay. However, most characters unlock through a gacha system through Wishes. Players use in-game currency to make Wishes with a small chance to unlock new characters. Wishes cost primogems, and primogems can be earned slowly in game or purchased outright with real world currency.
This gacha element of the game receives criticism for valid reasons. Players may use hundreds of wishes and never unlock the character they want. Unfortunately, spending money doesn't guarantee a given character. An energy system commonly found in gacha titles prevents players from running domains too often. Beating a domain unlocks valuable resources, but the Resin energy system forces players to come back to the game daily.
A Verdict On Genshin Impact
Despite these elements, Genshin Impact remains one of the best games available today. It's a free to play title where not spending money still provides an excellent experience. Players should love the story lore, combat, and game mechanics over many hours of playtime. Plus, MiHoYo releases small and large updates to the game on a regular basis. Updates include story quests, new features, new characters, and much more.
